Have you ever wondered...

Stinky feet

...where that nasty smell comes from?

Stinky feet can be a real problem, especially when it’s yours or those of your loved ones. But do you actually know where that nasty smell comes from?

Well, here’s a hint: it’s your socks that are to blame:

  1. Low-quality polyester and synthetic materials do not let your feet breathe. So they get sweaty.
  2. Your sweaty feet grow bacteria.
  3. That gross, sweaty bacteria stinks – literally.

Here at Mat & Vic’s we had the same problem. So, we fixed it by finding the perfect no-sweat material blend (78% premium combed cotton, 20% polyamide (aka nylon), 2% elastane (aka spandex), and no polyester. This miracle combination is super comfortable and keeps your feet warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and dry all year round.

No more sweat, no more stink, just happy feet (and everyone around you is happy too).

...why your feet are itching sometimes?

When your feet are itching that means your skin is complaining. For instance, about the chemicals that are contained in the fibers of your socks. Many socks produced in Asia contain harmful chemicals.

This is a good idea when you want to keep production costs low – not so much though, when you want to keep your feet healthy. Many of these harmful substances do not have to be declared by the producer, so you as the consumer have no chance at all to spot these nasties.

We at Mat & Vic’s are committed to keeping your feet healthy. Therefore, we comply with the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification. This makes sure that the entire production process leading up to the finished product does NOT use harmful substances such as azo-based dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel or lead.

Sweaty feet

...why you always have wet socks and shoes at the end of the day?

Are you afraid to take off your shoes in front of others? But even changing your socks several times a day doesn’t help? That’s because it’s not your feet, it’s the socks you’re wearing.

Cheap socks are not much of a bargain! And here’s why:

  1. Bargain socks are made with low-quality polyester and synthetic material. This does not allow your feet to breathe.
  2. As your trapped feet heat up, they start to sweat.
  3. That moisture is the perfect environment to grow bacteria.
  4. Gross, sweaty bacteria stinks (literally) and now your feet, socks, and even shoes will smell.

The solution? Our perfect no-sweat material blend (78% premium combed cotton, 20% polyamide (aka nylon), 2% elastane (aka spandex), and no polyester). This combination is super comfortable and keeps your feet warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and DRY all year round.

Blisters

...how to avoid those nasty blisters?

We’ve all been there – a blister pops up in the middle of the day but you still have plenty to do and so you limp about your day. But it HURTS! And those blisters always come back. Have you ever wondered why?

Poorly made, ill-fitting socks bunch up between your skin and the side of your shoe and cause so much friction a blister pops up. And even if your socks fit okay, the synthetic, scratchy material irritates your skin so much it reacts in a blister.

The good news? There is a simple solution that will stop blisters in their tracks: upgrade to better socks!

Start by picking a size that fits. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all, especially when it comes to your unique feet. That’s why Mat & Vic’s offers a range of four sizes so you can find just the right fit.

Next, pick a material that is designed for all-day wear. That’s why we’ve chosen a premium cotton blend that’s soft, breathable, and comfortable. No friction, no bunching up around the heel. And for extra comfort, we’ve added a reinforced heel and seamless toe.

Treat your feet to the comfort they deserve. Great fit. Unmatched comfort. No more blisters or sore feet.

child labor

...why some Asian products are so suspiciously cheap?

One of the nasty secrets behind those extra-low clothing prices is widespread use of child labor. Even many reputable brands use suppliers (or those suppliers in turn use subcontractors) that are not committed to ethical production standards.

Somewhere down the line are small children, who are grinding away in sweat shops for very little money. They work long hours under harsh and dangerous conditions. Those bargain socks come at a steep price!

But you can make a difference! It may not seem like a lot but one small change in your wardrobe can have a large ripple effect. Here’s a few tips:

  1. Choose clothing NOT made in countries with slack child labor laws (such as China, Bangladesh, or Vietnam).
  2. Look for the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) and Sedex labels. This ensures the products are made to ethical workforce treatment standards.
  3. Seek out companies who refuse to source from cheap alternatives.

We are with you in this fight! That’s why we manufacture only in Europe with an adults-only workforce; our factories are safe and secure (both for our employees and the environment)we work with vetted suppliers whom we’ve known for years; and all of our products are BSCI and Sedex certified.

Pollution

...why Asian clothing is so suspiciously cheap?

One of the nasty secrets behind those extra-low prices is a complete disregard for the environment. Asian textile manufacturers routinely dump their polluted wastewater directly into rivers.

That means toxic chemicals – such as azo-based dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorphenol, cadmium, nickel or lead – are going straight into the water supply. This affects the water quality for wildlife, fish, and insects; seriously damages surrounding soils; and ultimately ends up in the aquifers and ocean, putting everyone’s water supply in jeopardy.

But you can make a difference! Here’s a few tips:

  1. Choose clothing NOT made in countries with slack environmental protections (such as China, Bangladesh, or Vietnam).
  2. Look for the OEKO-TEX certification – this guarantees the entire production process from materials sourcing to the finished product does NOT use any harmful substances.
  3. Seek out companies who refuse to source from cheap alternatives.

Mat & Vic’s is committed to environmentally-friendly production standards. All of our products are made under strictly supervised conditions in European factories; we source only from vetted suppliers; and all of our products are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified.
